I was wondering if someone could advise on the following airfare conundrum.
I was playing around on orbitz, pricing out fares from NY to EBB, NBO and KGL.
Sabeana offers the best price to NBO, stopping in KGL....but if you try to book the same flights but just to KGL (not continuing to NBO) the price of the flight doubles. So my question is, what if you were to book to flight to NBO, stopping in KGL, but wanted to get off in KGL? Would they make you continue on or what would happen?

Technically you are not allowed to do this. You have a good chance of making it work if you only have carry on luggage.

Also, they may not let you on the return flight. What if you flew to NBO, then took a local flight back to KGL or EBB?

For the return flight, I would be flying back on KLM from DAR....I probably wouldn't consider pulling the trick if I were to return on the same airline....
Am I mistaken or do you ever have to show a ticket to disembark from a plane? If I just exited with my carry on luggage who would be the wiser?

I am from the ME so I may be seeing a problem where one doesn't exist...

That said, there is the chance that the whole plane will be held up because a missing passenger can mean a terorist/bomber that left something on the plane and skeddadled.

Something perhaps to consider...

Even if it's a different airline, I assume it's the same ticket. A friend of mine had the unfortunate experience of having to run for the second leg of an outgoing flight on a recent trip. The gate agent told her to "RUN!" down the jetway because they were closing the flight. He forgot to take her boarding pass, however. On the return leg, they didn't want to let her board the plane because she "didn't complete the outgoing flight." Since you aren't changing planes in KGL, you might get away with it, if you had only carry-on luggage, but...

If your SN Brussels flights from NY to NBO (via KGL) are on the same ticket as your KLM flights from DAR back to NY, then you risk having the rest of your itinerary cancelled when you don't show up for your KGL-NBO flight.

If you're planning to purchase this itinerary as two separate one way tickets, then yes you could get off at KGL with your carry on bag.

I should have mentioned that the Brussells-KGL-NBO flights would all be on the same plane....not connecting flights, where they would now if you did not show up for one of the legs. How would they know if you departed the plane in KGL instead of NBO?

For the record, I probably would not chance this, just curious as it would save several hundred dollars and be more convienent.

Yes, this does sometime happen and I experienced it in February on an AF flight CDG-CAI-JED. To get off in CAI we had to show our tickets (this to prevent people ticketed to JED from getting off).

Am I missing something - if you do get off at KGL, then how do you get to NBO? Or where else are you going from KGL?

Because when they close the door and check the passenger manifest for the KGL-NBO sector and you're not in your seat, they'll assume you are hiding someplace and they may not even taxi until they find you. In these days of security concerns, I'd think this is one of the top ten things not to do.

Gee wiz...that is the last time I ask a question on the africaboard....you guys are a touch crowd. I was just trying to figure out if there was some way to save over $1500pp for the very the same flight, just disembarking earlier.

Sorry, not meaning to sound harsh. &quot;Hidden city&quot; ticketing is expressly prohibited in most airline T&amp;Cs, and they tend to react strongly when it occurs.

Try setting up the itinerary on www.itasoftware.com using the &quot;multi-city&quot; option. I bet you'll find that if you add stopovers en route rather than looking at simple round trips that the net cost increase will be less than you fear. You can't ticket with ITA but if you call a TA with the &quot;detailed fare info&quot; off the results screen they can put the ticket together for you.

You might also try checking with a specialist in Africa airfare. Some of the major safari companies have &quot;A&quot; contracts with airlines such as KLM or SAA and get rates you can't get yourself.

Sorry if you took our suggestions as criticism; we just don't want you to end up with a problem in KGL or DAR.

curisin~you asked a question, they answered honestly, just because it's not the answer you wanted to hear doesn't mean you have to desert the africa board. there's more help and info here than you can get anywhere!
