Best way to spend 5 days in Johannesburg?

Help! I'm traveling to Johannesburg with a senior citizen in early March. We're only there for 5-6 days, so I'm trying to decide the best way to use the time while allowing for a good rest. We arrive early Sunday morning and depart late on the following Friday or Saturday night. I'm thinking we'll rest and maybe take in the Apartheid Museum or Ghandi's house on Sunday. Thoughts or suggestions for the remaining days??? I'm wondering if we can fit in a safari also, at a reasonable cost.

Rent a car and visit Sun City, Pilanesberg and surrounding area. Visit the Rhino and Lion park, Cradle of Humanity. Visit various areas of Joburg eg Melville, Rosebank, Sandton.

Forgot to mention hot air balloon trip, we went on this couple years back, it was a great excursion not too far from Joburg.

We also visited a cultural village by the Cradle of Humanity.

There is also an elephant sanctuary on the way to Sun City and Pilanesburg.

Something I really like is the SAB Beer Museum. It gives you a history of beer-making from ancient times to the present, and a trip through a mock-up shebeen. Lots of fun, but hire a car and driver, because it's in a bad part of town.

Gold Reef City is a great big amusement park, but two things I like about it are the trip down in a real gold mine, and the performances of mine dancing that happen every hour or so.

Your best bet for a nearby safari is Pilanesburg.

Have a great time!
