check out insuremytrip.com and compare the companies/policies there. I'm sure everyone has their favorite, but this site will give you the differences in what is important to you (medical, theft, cancellation, delay, evacuation etc.)

Search this forum for "Travelgaurd". There was a mention of them some months back.

This is an excellent supplement to regular travel insurance:

www.medjetassistance.com

If you are injured anytime you are more than 150 miles from home, you will receive medical evacuation all the way home, even if chartered jets, helicopters or boats are required. Doesn't matter if you are 151 miles from home or 11,000 miles from home.

Cost is about $300 per year for a couple.

Busybee,

Checking insuremytrip.com would give the broadest advice. Here is a personal account I've posted before.

The only travel insurance claim I ever made was with CSA in August 2005.

It required quite a bit of paperwork, including the original credit card statements of trip deposits and other payments, not just an invoice from the travel agent. But within 30 days of submitting the documentation I got a 100% refund of what I submitted, even though I figured they could have balked at about 25% of what I asked for.

I was happy with CSA.

If you can get copy of Saturday 2/4 (today) NYTimes in second section under "Personal Business" there is a comprehensive article about pros/cons of travel insurance - not actually a rating of various companies, but information on what to look for, how to interpret "fine print" - worth trying to read.

We used Travelguard for our last Africa trip and had to file a claim upon returning which was promptly refunded-no problems whatsoever even though our receipts were mostly in Botswana currency.

I use Travel Guard exclusively and my one and only claim was paid promptly and in full. I wouldn't use any other company.

I used Travelex and filed a claim with them. After getting the police report and receipts from Zambia, I got my claim paid in 2 weeks, no hassle, no questions asked.

Hi - I'm looking into this now myself. For those who use TravelGuard, which plan for a trip to Africa? Thanks!

I'm using the Protect Assist product with Travelguard for my trip to Africa planned for April.

Thanks - I think that's what I was looking at, too.
