Best time to go to Kenya

Planning a trip to Kenya and possibly to Tanzania to the crater. Like info on 1. best time to travel to these countries to see the wild life and birds (especially with the new borns), and is it worthwhile to go to Tanzania also. If yes to Tanzania, any suggestions for an agent or driver/guide to go to the crater. Thanks in advance for any help. Susan

The season of the "short rains" is about as good as it gets. That would include November. Incidentally, the Ngorongoro Crater lies entirely within Tanzania.

We traveled to Kenya and Tanzania last January. It was a wonderful trip - weatherwise. The short rains had just finished and everything was green and dust-free. Day temps averaged mid-80s, with high 60ish overnights. Cool mornings and evenings - sweater weather. It only rained one or two days during our three weeks and then only for an hour or so. Most rain came overnight. None enough to interupt our activities. We saw baby-everythings. Our driver explained that there is no special birthing season in Africa. Because of the temperate climate mating and birthing carries on year round.

If your idea of Tanzania is "the crater," where do you think Kilimanjaro is? You probably think it's in Kenya....

We also travelled to Kenya and Tanzania in late January, early February. The weather was perfect the whole trip of three weeks. Do not miss Tanzania at that time of year as the migration will be in the Serengeti. Sorry to say I was a little disappointed at the Ngorongoro Crater because of the number of people there. At lunchtime there were 35 other vehicles stopped around a small lake. Would not have missed seeing it tho'. Cannot give you suggestions for a guide as we were with a tour package.
