Best time to go for game viewing.

One more intinenrary questions. Regarding the best time to travel, my original thought was December January, February, but is it too hot? When would be the best time for game viewing?

Message: I will be travelling to South Africa next fall, and wanted to reserve my plane tix asap, using miles.
I need help with a suggested Itinnerary. I have about 10 days total during which I want to do game viewing and visit the wine country. For game viewing if those who know suggest two parks, one should be super deluxe, the second does not need to be asl plush. Is it safe to drive between the wine country and the game reserves, or is flying better. In terms of wine, I was thinking stellenbosch or paarl, but open to suggestions.

Thanks for your help

I hate the heat so was happy with the weather in May/June as far as the Eastern regions of South Africa are concerned. Perfect conditions for game viewing.

It was perhaps a touch more cool, overcast and rainy in the West (Cape Town, Winelands, Garden Route) than I would have preferred but still perfectly acceptable. Spring or Autumn would be my choices for that region.

I'd base your decision on timing on:
a) whether optimum weather conditions for game viewing or for the Cape area are most important to you
b) whether there are significant cost differentials in the different seasons you are considering
c) when the trip fits into your personal schedule - SA is still good even out of season

As for which parks, it's hard to say without knowing more about what you want.

Are you intending to self-drive or looking only for private camps with fully inclusive transfers and activities? Do you have a budget in mind?
