Best place to buy biltong in Johannesburg?
Need some local advice on this...I need to buy some good biltong on my way through Johannesburg. I love kudu and chutney flavored beef. Any recommendations?
Thanks!

Biltong is like wine - one man's meat is another man's poison! And I am sure that all us locals will each have our own favourite local shop or butcher. Kudu is a little more difficult to track down than beef. My suggestion is to try The Butcher Shop and Grill outlets. They have an outlet in the international terminal at JIA and will be used to packing things up properly for transport. Their website is:

These days, even many of the common-or-garden supermarkets have a fair selection of packaged and loose variations, usually at the deli counter.
I think the experts (I don't categorise myself as one) will probably say that "chutney flavored beef" is sacrilege. But whatever takes your fancy.

We bought an assortment of packaged biltong (ostrich, springbok, kudu) at the strawberry farm/market we visited with Selwyn outside of Stellenbosch, to send to our son in Iraq as he is a "jerky" afficianado. We know he'll love it!
