Best area to stay in Johanesbour and Cape Town
Hello!
I will be visiting the cities of Johanesbourg and Cape Town next May and i would like if someone could tell me which are the best areas to stay in both cities.
We prefer staying in safe areas with restaurantes and shops where is possible to have a walk.
Thanks for your advice!

In Joburg, stay in Sandton City or Rosebank. Both areas have restaurants and shops where it is ok to walk around.
In Cape Town, you have more choices. Victoria & Albert Waterfront has lots of shops and restaurants. The area around Long Street is fine for walking around, mainly restaurants. Seapoint for restaurants, Camps Bay is beautiful and has lots of restaurants.

I like Melville a lot but it depends what you are looking for. Sandton and Rosebank have some very nice hotels and are very much europeanized so to speak. Melville has a more local feel and can be a lot of fun. It may be too gritty for some visitors. I don't have any specific places to recommend as I live in Joburg so haven't had the experience. You may want to check out Maboneng too if you are looking for something more local. Have fun!

We rented a cottage [actually a 2 bedroom house] from this company and were very pleased with it. A nice immediate area and we walked to V&A a few times. Good prices, daily cleaning service. we were there 9 nights. A small shopping center with supermarket and lots of restaurants in the immediate area.

We stayed in Melrose Arch area for 3 nights at:

The immediate area is excellent; loads of restaurants and shops. A bit removed from downtown area.
