Hari,
Our "tracker" (which is what they're called at Londo) did indeed get out of the car and tracked into the bush on foot. He did terrific spotting too. At the start of one night drive, our vehicle mates, as a joke, asked him to find a chameleon. In 5 minutes, he spotted a tiny one in a tree. I know the spotlight lights up animals eyes, but it was still astounding.
The ranger must have forgiven me my faux pas because he let me ride in the tracker's seat, twice. It was a thrill!

My most intimidating experience was in Nairobi, when I was trying to take a picture of a flowering tree, (in the middle of the street, not even in front of a building) and pair of armed guards of some sort took exception and hit me, to knock my arm down. I didn't even understand what had happened, and turned around to see two guys with sub-machine guns glaring at me. They said "No", and then walked on.
My guide was appalled - I asked what I had done wrong, and he didn't know -- I wasn't in front of any 'sensitive' location.
