Beach in Morocco

My girlfriend and I will be spending 2 weeks in Morocco in August. We're excited about the cities, trekking in the High Atlas, and going to the sand dunes. The one thing we haven't read or heard much about is the beaches in Morocco.

Where are the best beaches? Do they compare with beaches in e.g., the caribbean? Is there any scuba diving that is worthwhile? And is there any good places to schedule a 1 or 2 day sailing trip?

The beaches aren't like the caribbean and i don't think there's anything in the way of diving. They tend to be long, long stretches of sand, windswept with a bit of surf and good for windsurfing. Our favourite spot is Essaouira which is a lovely old fortified town with a buzzing fishing harbour, 2 hrs west of Marrakech. Also some lovely hotels there and a chilled atmosphere (welcome after some of the other cities). Have a look at our guide to the area and reviews on small hotels on www.i-escape.com/morocco.php then click on Atlantic coast.
