Battery Chargers?

Husband and I are going to Tanzania in a couple of weeks and we are looking into purchasing batteries and charger for our DiMage Z5. Does anyone have any thoughts? I know there are different ranges for rechargable batteries from 800 to about 2500, but I don't know laymans terms on how effective they will be. Also of concern is the 15 minute charger vs. a 1 hour charger, with "overcharge protection"? Help, I need remedial Battery Charges 101!

Are you talking about rechargeable AA batteries?

The higher the battery capacity (800-2500mA), the longer the batteries last but the longer they take to charge. I opted for 2300mA batteries and recently purchased a Lenmar Pro66 charger kit. It's a dual voltage charger with an output rating of 2000mA and also comes with a car adaptor.

It's taking me a little over an hour to fully charge a set of 4 AA's each time. You need to know the output rating of the charger and the capacity of the batteries to figure out the approx. charge time. The terms '15 minute charger' or '1 hour charger' doesn't really tell you anything unless you know what output rating/capacity is being used as a standard.

Here's a website with explanations (including how to calculate charge time) that I found very helpful -
