Bantry Bay or Camps Bay

We will be travelling to cape town in july and I was wondering where would be the best location to stay with regard to sightseeing and nightlife activity in cape town, we are looking at staying in Les Cascades in Bantry Bay, however we have heard that this may not be the best area to stay in, any advise would be great.

Hello,

If you will have a car, either one should be fine -- you will need to drive into the city for nightlife and sightseeing as there's not much nearby.

If you won't have a car, or would prefer to be able to stroll around neighbourhood restaurants, you are better off staying in the City Bowl -- Tamboerskloof and the Green Point/De Waterkant areas are both very nice and have plenty of nearby restaurants. You don't need a car in Cape Town if you stay in the City Bowl -- taxis and Rikkis are plentiful and cheap.

Cheers,
Julian

Speranza,

I think Jashers advice is sound and I definitely want to add that Les Cascades is a good place to stay only if you have a car. It is located high up in Fresnaye and without a car you will have to rely on taxis. There is no problem with taxis in that they are efficient, relatively cheap and reliable however you will be totally dependant on this form of transport which you will need for wherever you want to go if you stay at Les Cascades. On the other hand the accommodation at LC is very good and it could be well worth making the sacrifice to stay there.

Another point is that in July you should virtually be able to name your
price when it comes to accommodation in Cape Town as it is very, very low season particularly due to the weather.

If you need any further advice as where to stay etc please dont hesitate to ask as I am sure that someone on this forum inclusive of myself should be able to help you further.

Enjoy your planning for coming to visit my great city.
