Baines or Stanley's

oops-sorry, not sure how I deleted my last post!

We may be able to book either of these camps in early November. I have heard nothing but great things about the elephant experience, which is why we are going. I like the description of Baines as it sounds kind of unusual and our other places will be very traditional. Can I assume the game viewing would be comparable given their proximity to each other? I do think that in early november water levels may be too low in this area to do any water activities. (first week of november) Am I assuming correctly?

thanks again!

I have been to both Stanleys and Baines. And did the elephant experience which was great!

Baines is the more upmarket of the two lodges. The rooms have recently been upgraded and the location is great. And you can roll your bed out onto the veranda and sleep under the stars

Stanleys on the other hand is a tented camp in need of an upgrade. Much more basic, but very friendly staff.

Game activities at both are the same as they are within the same area.

I spent three nights at Stanley's and liked it very much. This was in late 2007. It is not as luxurious as many other camps (we went on to King's Pool after Stanley's) but I found it very comfortable. We had a wonderful experience there..wild dogs, elephant experience, leopards, etc etc...

Alan was our ranger and he was superb.

Ive been to both, and much preferred Baines. It is a little unique, and you have the opportunity to "sleep" under the stars if you wish (they roll your bed outside).

Stanleys was also nice, but as mentioned a little run down when I was there last year. They also have more tents, some of them being a good walk from camp.

Richard what did you think of the food at Stanley's? Was Harry the Austrian chef there when you visited?

In January of this year I had a 3-night stay at Baines. It was outstanding. We visited Stanley''s one day, and it seemed much more casual and traditional looking. The main lodge at Stanley's lacked the sweeping lagoon view offered by Baines. I never saw inside the tents at Stanley's, but based on the gigantic size and fun design of the rooms at Baines, I would definitely go with Baines. Which ever one you choose, the elephant activity is an absolute must!

Thanks everyone! Things are looking good for Baines end of October! Just hope there is some water left.
