Auto travel from Europe to Damascus, Syria

Yes there are ferries, Italy (Venice & Brindisi) to Izmir on the Aegean coast of Turkey. There are camp grounds in Turkey. I see you'll be flying out of Canada, so give me your mailing address in Canada and I'll send you a road map, camping guide, and other info on Turkey.

When I was living in the region in the late 80's it was not unheard of for wealthy Syrians to purchase cars in Germany while on vacation and drive them home. I am not sure how events in Eastern Europe have affected the feasibility of that, especially at border crossings, etc.

In any case, the drive from Izmir or Istanbul to Damascus is still worth doing. Motoring in Turkey is very pleasant, and likewise now in Syria. Nothern Syria & Eastern Turkey are also very interesting places that one might otherwise not have a chance to experience.

Feel free to email me if you'd like more info.
