Attire Advise

My husband and I are planning to visit Egypt and Jordan in May of 2005. Please share with us advise on suitable attire for men and women.

Thanks,
Wezzie

Comfortable clothing. Slacks (crop pants work well), camp shirts work well, skirts to the knee or longer, t-shirts, dress, are fine. Keep the shorts and any abbreviated clothing for the hotel pool or Nile cruise boat.

During site/temple tours while on the Nile cruise, women and man would often wear long walking shorts, as it is relatively hot between Luxor and Aswan. And these work fine for touring in Petra. Also wear comfortable shoes (already broken in) as there is lots of uneven ground. Women should have a scarf in their bag if you happen to visit a mosque, though we found this wasn't required of Westerners.

A jacket or shawl is a good idea, as evening in the desert does drop quite a bit. For evenings in Cairo, Amman, Nile Cruise - "nice casual" works very well - but doesn't have to be more than a colorful scarf over a sweater/shirt and slacks.

You do not have to be covered from head to toe. But remember that by May the temps are rising.
