Michael,

Thanks!!! That is exactly the kind of info that I was looking for.

I'll take Kafunta for $400 USD per night over Chitabe for double or triple that price.

I was originally looking at Zimbabwe but in order to accomodate my wife I opted for South Luangwa, although she won't feel very accomodated when she goes on her first bush walk and will likely feel as though she is taking a walk down Death Row!

I am very much looking forward to Kafunta but I think I will keep it at 5 nights.

I am now tossing around the idea of possibly ending my trip, after 5 nights in Cape Town, with 3 nights at Sabi Sabi Earth Lodge or maybe even Vuyatela.
Why not??? They are not much more than a couple places I was looking at along the Garden Route. I do still think that Sabi Sabi Earth Lodge at under $500 USD per night PER ROOM is a typo (listed on Africam website).

Either way, Vuyatela looks very nice and has plunge pools and other amenities that Sabi Sabi Earth Lodge has, although it will be cold in mid-June.

If it were up to me, I'd end in Sabi Sabi rather than the Garden Route, but that's because, to me, the essence of southern Africa is the animals, and not the wildflowers, however nice. If you have an opportunity to visit the private reserves adjacent to Kruger, do so, as you'll see a lot of animals, maybe even some you haven't seen in South Luangwa. I spent three nights at Kafunta, but I certainly would have been pleased to spend more. There's a really nice pool to while away the afternoons, and from the pool you look out over an expansive marshy plain that attracts animals.

It's a lot of hopping around but I am hopping that with the 5 night stays at Kafunta and Cape Town that my wife won't mind so much. Plus, this time there will be no 4 seat Fedair transfer to Singita like last year. We thought we were going to die on the way back to Joburg after encountering some nasty turbulence.

I am praying that Sabi Sabi Earth Lodge is not a typo but I am expecting that it is. If so, I am fully prepared to stay at Vuyatela, pending availability.
