ATMs in Cairo

Are ATMs readily available in Cairo, like in the airport. What is the currency of Egypt? Do you know the current conversion rate?

There are ATMs in Cairo. I can't say for sure about the airport, but all the major hotels and many of the major sites have them.

At the airport, there are curency exchange desks (like Thomas Cook) that you can use to get local currency. You should see these after you exit the plane and before you hit passport control. I think you can also get tourist visas there.

The local currency is Egyptian Pounds (LE)- in denominations of 1,5,10, 20, 50, and 100. Each pound is made up of piastres (usually as coins or bills) in denominations of 5,10, 25 &50. The 1LE and 5 LE notes are very handy for tipping.

The current exchange rate is about 6.18 LE per 1 USD. For simplicity - think 6 LE = $1.
