I also use Delta (Skymiles). Just give them a call at (800) 323-2323 even if you do have to call a dozen times before you get past their perpetually busy signal.

If you happen to find anything out, let me know. I guarantee you that you are eligible for a free add-on flight, but SAA does not have a hub in Maun.

I will be trying to trade my current JNB-Lusaka-JNB flight for a JNB-LUN, VFA-JNB flight (or at this point I may even fly into Lilongwe, Malawi, as Lilongwe and Lusaka are about the same distance from South Luangwa).

Even if I have to pay for that second flight, it will still be worth it to visit Makalolo Plains. I am sure that Makalolo Plains is as good (or better) as some lodges that are twice its price. So, if I have to pay $250 per person, or whatever it turns out to be to fly one-way from VFA to JNB, it is totally worth it.

One-way flight from VFA - JNB on British Airways, departing at 1:50PM (perfect timing to allow for a transfer from Makalolo Plains) is $214 per person.

Another plus, it is possible to get the very beautiful Westcliff Hotel, a luxury, boutique hotel with 115 rooms, located in an upscale residential area, for only about $275 per night, including breakfast. That is a total bargain that is better than anything Luxury Link is offering for the Michelangelo Hotel.

Other than that, Joburg 5* hotel choices are a bit limited.

Lilongwe is probably the better option for South Luangwa... it's a LONG way from Lusaka and the road isn't in that great a shape. The roads from Malawi were in much better condition. Also if using AA miles, check on using a oneworld award, sometimes it can be less miles to Africa than a regular award. (130k in Business instead of 150k)
