Arusha to DAR to Ruaha

Just thinking out loud but considering mix of northern and southern Tanzania for 2007. Welcome feedback from those who have flown from Arusha to to DAR, airline used, costs, etc. Dick

Morning Dick (well morning in the UK anyway)

Northern and Southern Tanzania used to be much more disconnected than they are now, both in people's minds and because of airline schedules.

Until recently the only way to connect Arusha with Ruaha (as your title suggests you are keen to do) was to fly via Dar using two flights and making sure you flew on the right days for the Arusha-Ruaha sector.

It's now possible (and hopefully still will be in 2007) to fly direct from Arusha to Dar using Coastal. Their daily flight departs Arusha at 0800 and arrives in Ruaha at 1130. Priced currently something over $300pp one way it's not cheap, but any specialist operator ought to be able to book it and there are discounts if you fly multi-legs with Coastal eg. Dar-Arusha-Ruaha-Dar is much cheaper than the combination of the same three legs bought separately.

We are beginning to have more and more clients connect North and South and enjoy the differences of habitat, wildlife and densities of visitors. My recommendation would be to do North followed by South going (generally speaking) from bigger lodges to smaller lodges, greater densities and more habituated wildlife to shyer wildlife, more people to less people, fewer choices of gameviewing activity to more choice of gameviewing activity.

Hope this helps, Richard

Richard, thanks so much for the thoughts. Booked Foxes to get DAR to and from camps in the south earlier this year but was having difficulty in getting info on flights from Arusha to DAR. Will check out Coastal Air especially since they go to camps/lodges. Thanks again and Happy Holidays
Dick
