Arusha National Park

I've been reviewing all the posts and itineraries for Tanzania, and it looks like everyone skips Arusha National Park, even though it would be a good day trip from Arusha. The "scheduled" tours seenm to ignore this park also. It seeems like there are no big predators in the park, but should be beautiful scenery, colobus monkeys, and there is supposed to be a walk around the crater (sorry, forgot the name of this crater), and canoeing on one of the Momela lakes.
So, why does it seem no one wants to visit this park? Is it not worthwhile for reason that I am missing?
Thanks to any of you Tanzania "experts" that can shed some light on this.

It is a great park and very scenic - especially if you have a day or so layover in Arusha.

But with the great Tarangire & Ngorongoro just 2-4 hours away, it is understandably not high on the "must-see" list!

It also competes with the growing number of cultural visits in the area and since most visitors have only a day or so here, I think most people would rather do these and leave the wildlife viewing for the bigger parks.

A visit to the park is included on many of the itineraries offered by Kilimanjaro climb outfitters (since many climbers don't have time for multi-day safaris).

I agree with you and highly recommend the Serena Active activities in the park, as well as the game drives. But somehow we all want to go only where the cats are!!!
