Along the road between Marrakesh and Essaouira, you'll see argan tree farms and signs for cooperatives where the oil is processed by local women. You can stop in and buy at any of the cooperatives. You can also buy it in many argan oil shops in Essaouira. I paid about 100 dirhams for about 5 ounces of cosmetic oil. A bottle of argan oil (about 15 ounces?) for cooking was 120 dirhams. I didn't ask about oil for massages, but I'm sure it's in that price range.

I also looked up a rather fancy shop in Marrakesh (the only fancy shop I entered in my entire trip) dedicated to argan that I had read about in Conde Nast Traveler a few months before. It is called Naturelle d'Argan (the website is www.naturelledargan.com) and is located at 5, rue Sourya, in Gueliz (the new part of town). It's really close to a major intersection, but a bit tricky to find. Just keep asking passersby for directions. It was a lovely shop and all of the products are very high quality. They can give you a good explanation of everything in English. If your French isn't very good, I would suggest stopping there first, and then you'll be prepared and know what you want when you head over to Essaouira.

It really is very good stuff. I bought some to put on my face (I know, it goes against everything the beauty industry would have you believe), but it does refresh your skin. It also tastes good if you dip bread in it (the cooking variety, not the cosmetic variety).

I'm a bit of a Argan oil fanatic, and have only purchased online before from http://essenceofargan.com/ but it is a dream of mine purchasing directly from Morocco. I've heard you can buy Argan oil off the street in Morocco from a Berber cheaper than any other place in the world. I'm in Asia right now, and it's a bit difficult to access Argan oil here, mainly because I can't find an online store that will ship to Thailand.
