Hi Alice,
Thanks for all your information. We have been reading lonely planet Cairo and Fodor's Egypt - excellent.
Sounds like your biggest aggravation was the hawkers and vendors. Have you been to Jamaica? If so I just wondered how it compared as they were bad there.

I'm a video person so it was important info. about that. Guess I'll take it and deal with the problems. How about the x-rays? Did it bother your regular film or could you hand it around? Our Insight-Splendor of Egypt is only a month away. We are going a day early as the plane gets in late and we want to get a little rest. Our flights are LAX to London to Cairo.

We can deal with the water problem as we are well trained as have done a China Tour and Africa Safari.
Thanks again, Don

Alice,

I'm getting ready to visit Egypt next month. I'd be most interested in reading your 7 e-mails (Parts 1 - 4, 4 plus, and Part 5) and Part 6.

From the number of responses and comments on the Fodor WEB site, they must be terrific reading.

Thanks much!!!!!!!

Frank

Don - Your right. The worst of the trip was the hawders and vendors. Funny you should mention Jamaica. I just read recently about how bad they are there especially when the big boats pull in. It just takes away so much from the special "feeling" you have at the Phaeronic sites. By all means take your video (yes, I still have specks of Egyptian dust in my lense) but has not affected my videos at all. Only one time did I pass my film through to be hand checked and after that didn't bother. My pics came out fine. I understand, though, that the xrays used for checked luggage are much stronger than those used for carry-on so you should probably carry all film on the plane with you. Very good idea to have an extra day in Cairo to recoup from the flight. With my layover in Amsterdam, I was "on the road" for over 20 hours and one tired puppy when I arrived in the land of the Pyramids. I am so glad I added the extra days BEFORE joining my tour group and not after. Boy, those tours keep you hopping!!

Susan - I am sorry to have missed your request. I don't check this particular site everyday (too busy over in the Europe one!!). I do try, though, to get the notes off pretty quickly to those who are leaving within a few days.

Frank (I got your email request and thanks for the kind remarks) and Christina - I'll have the notes off to you this weekend.

Later... Alice

Hi Alice...am leaving for Egypt on May 25th with a group. Figured a tour was the best way since I am a 61 yr old widow. Am going with Globus tours. Would be very grateful for your infomation as I will be doing most of the things you mentioned. Am especially interested in dress, what to take, etc. Thanks in advance. Judy
