Carol, I was in Egypt in Dec. and Jan. and the weather was just perfect (but very warm in southern Egypt!). I have read that it is REALLY hot in the summer months esp. in Aswan and Abu Simbel. Fortunately there is plenty of cold bottled water available in most places. Someone wrote how much they appreciated having a combo spritz/fan bottle on hand for trekking around the monuments. Don't forget the sunscreen and you might consider a brimmed hat.
And dark sunglasses.
[And if they made 20 speed film that would probably be perfect in the kind of sunlight you will be facing!!)

The notes are on their way.... Hi Alice,
Just in case my e-mail didn't reach you, I'd really appreciate receiving your notes when you get chance. The thought of visiting Egypt fills me with equal measures of excitement and apprehension - anything you could do to inflame the first and ease the second would be great!
Thanks in advance. Helen.
Just had someone ask me about immunizations to enter Egypt. I didn't address this in my notes, but you are not required to have any. Might not be a bad idea to have a current tetnus shot, though, just in case. All kinds of opportunities to slip and fall and suffer abrasions. Have also read about carrying your own hypodermic needle with you in your first aid kit in the event you do need an injection. (In case they don't use disposable ones?!?)

On a lighter note I'll get the e-mails off to you tonight. Alice

Dear Alice. Thanks so much for your notes. One question: I have booked a flight from Cairo to Luxor on Sat. April 14, and I want to take a to take a cruice from there to Ashwan. How many days does it take and how do I get back. I plan to fly from Ashwan to Abu Simbel and back. Thank you. Anna

Hi - Sounds like you enjoyed Egypt! Great that you share with others. My wife and I are going with Insight - Splendours of Egypt in March. We would love to have your notes to go along with our other research. We like to be informed when we go places. Thanks.

I'm planning a trip to Egypt and Morocco for Jan '02, and would love a copy of your Journal! Also, do you (or anyone else) have experience with train travel in Egypt? My husband loves trains, and it saves time to traverse distances while we sleep.

Look forward to hearing from you-Margaret

Anna - It takes about 3-4 days to travel by boat from Luxor to Aswan. You can return by boat, train, or plane.

Shelley - I enjoyed my cruise up the Nile VERY much and highly recommend it.

Tom - I just posted an answer about immunizations above.

Josie - In July, you don't need a fire to fry eggs!!! It's HOT!

Margeret - See my notes for my "not very extensive" experience in train travel. (Went from Cairo to Alex and enjoyed the trip very much, esp. seeing what is considered the "Nile Delta".

I'll get the notes off to all of you tonight.
