anything needed (pics/forms/etc.) for obtaining visa at airport?
 

hi everyone! i know i can get my visa at the airport for zambia, kenya, egypt, and tanzania. but i was wondering if there's anything i need to have in order to do so? any passport pics, pre-filled out forms? of course i have my yellow fever int'l vac. card.

or do i just show up w/passport and yellow card in hand, and i should be all set? thanks so much! :)

Unfortunately I dont know about the countries you mentioned other than Egypt. But for Egypt it is very simple. Just take your passport to one of the kiosks in the arrivals area, pay your dollars / pounds / sterling to the cashier and he gives you a sticky label to put into your passport. Then simply put that into a clear page on your passport and take it with your landing card to the immigration who will stamp it all for you.

For Egypt, bring "exact change" -- just makes life easier. It's $15.00 USD, not sure about the other currencies.

I just returned from Kenya last night -AMAZING trip btw;

and what I did was download the form from the Kenya Embassy online, took it with us; followed the forum's excellent advice, which is: upon arrival at the airport walk to the left side of the airport as you exit your plane-most folks head right so just walk past the kiosks, etc.on the left side and you will come upon an empty visa desk with folks just waiting for you!
Smile and hand them the form, 25bucks, get fingerprinted, and you are on your way!

Left or right at NBO/JKIA, always depends on which gate your flight arrives. Just follow the signs and don't sweat it. Tanzania is easy as Visa window on the far wall when entering Arrivals Hall. In Egypt, as described above... easy enough. Know nothing about Zambia.

Best to download Visa application forms for each country, complete and keep with your passport. I know Egypt, Kenya and Tanzania don't require passport size photos (agent has your passport in front of them), but Zambia might so I'd have a few just in case. Have the correct amount of money due for each Visa as no guarantee the agent will be able to provide change in a favorable currency (your own).

Make sure you have enough pages left in your passport for all those visas. Some of them might need room for stamps, too. It's not free to add pages, but if you are running tight, I'd send it off for more.

In Kenya: very quick and easy, however--
Be sure to read the directions on how to do the fingerprinting ---the visa guys have no tolerance for travel weary tourists who are not paying attention! (or did I just get the grouchy guy)?? Kinda seemed like they were all sooooo serious!!!!!

Re: passport pages - Kenya actually requires 2/blank passport pages, as does South Africa.

awesome! thanks elaine...for commenting on zambia. :) so seems like all countries should be pretty painless. i definitely have enough pages in my passport.

Christabir - "It's not free to add pages, but if you are running tight, I'd send it off for more." Just added pages to our passports and other than the postage I do not remember paying anything additional. For those who travel extensively you can request the larger passport when you renew.

They changed all the fees this year and now you have to pay for added pages. According to the link I provided above it's $82!

So, I landed in Kenya 6 hrs ago....

Writing from the Fairview in Nairobi(on free wi-fi), *thanks, Sandi* for the recommendation, this hotel rocks ! Anyway, I am glad that I printed out the visa form from the embassy's site and filled it up in advance. Saying so, because, even though KLM gave me 2 forms (1 white and 1 blue)...the immigration officer at the counter tossed that blue form back at me and said...you need to fill up the visa form...not this one (visitor arrival form or something). Thankfully, I had filled it up at SFO in advance (thx to fodorites for the tip). Also, as some1 said above, the immi officers did seem a bit pizzd when people placed their LEFT hand (4 fingers) first instead of the right hand. I heard 1 officer say to a lady "you are using the wrong hand...use right hand..right hand " haha. Gone are those days when people used to love their jobs...

Anyway, what my guide told me is that the mega herds are already back into tanzania(and so says the report on a couple of sites). I will catch those punks back in Ndutu in Jan...no worries...
