ANYONE USED GAP ADVENTURES?

Has anyone used GAP Adventures in Egypt and/or Jordan? I am a single 58 yo woman who usually travels alone, I understand you have to share accomodations on their tours. I'm looking at the "comfort" one (to just Egypt) which takes the Nile cruise. Any comments appreciated. Thanks...

I am also a woman who travels alone. I haven't used GAP for Egypt, but Lady Egypt might suit your needs. I took an Egypt/Jordan tour with Lady Egypt and it was great, especially the Nile Cruise.

I did use GAP for another trip and at age 44 I was very much the granny of the group. With Lady Egypt the ages were more evenly distributed.

Thanks, P M. I did contact Lady Egypt about 2 months ago and quite honestly I did not like the response I received. I felt they were really pushing me toward a very HIGH end trip. I had spotted Lady Egypt in these forums and the prices that were listed by other posters was much less than the prices she was quoting me. She said that the prices in Jordan (I was looking at both Jordan & Egypt) were very similar to Western prices, but that is not what I am seeing from other tour companies. She also gave me a very high single supp. I just did not feel comfortabble in what she was telling me. I guess I never saw a tour company that did not list their prices, you have to tell them about yourself and then they come up with a price. I feel better when you see the price for everyone. Know what I mean?

I did have a feeling that GAP was for a bit younger crowd. I was thinking the "comfort" tour might cater to an older crowd. Don't get me wrong, I do prefer younger to the over 70 crowd.

Hi,

you might like to try Intrepid http://www.intrepidtravel.com/ because their Comfort trips have a single accommodation option that can be purchased.

I'm not sure if either company offer singles on the cruises though.

Happy planning,

Pol

I've used Intrepid (eastern Europe) and very much enjoyed the trip. Simple accommodations, lots of free time - which we really enjoyed - much less regimented than most tour groups. We had actually signed up with Gap and it ended up being run by Intrepid. Evidently these two companies partner in certain areas of the world (not Egypt, though, I don't think). The ages ranged from 20s to 50s - more on the younger side, but a nice mix. My daughter and I are now signed up for Gap in Egypt in February (delayed from next month because of shoulder surgery for me - never thought I'd be more eager for surgery than a trip, but a rotator cuff tear can be really painful). We're going on the comfort one with the Nile cruise. I expect fewer 20s and more in the upper age range on a comfort tour. Not sure when you're planning to go, but I'll be doing a trip report when we return in late February. (We're also using Debbie for a couple days before the tour starts!)
Can't wait. I, too, had written to Lady Egypt, by the way, and got no response at all. After much debate about whether to do it ourselves or with a group, I turned to Gap, which seems to mix the best of both - a group to take care of logistics, some tours, but still a fair amount of free time. (Same with Intrepid.)
Best of luck,
Karen

aussie417, you might be right that a comfort tour will attract a slightly older crowd. I was not on a comfort tour so I can't confirm that. Good luck in finding a suitable trip.
