Anyone stayed at floating hotels M/S Hotep or M/S Tut?

I'm evaluating a trip itinerary to Egypt next spring, and two of the hotels are "floating", that is I think they are semi-retired old boats. One, the Hotep, seems to have belonged to Club Med. I haven't found anything on M/S Tut. According to the one website I found, the Hotep is described as "practical comfort without fuss". The bedrooms look miniscule and possibly seedy, though the common areas look nice. The boat was built in 1979 and renovated in 1999. I don't care about luxury, but I do want a clean place with safe food. Anybody know anything about either of these? Thanks for any help.

One issue I would consider on a "floating hotel" would be mosquitos. If you aren't moving at all, they could be bad. There are loads of good budget hotels in Luxor if you need one. I like the St. Joseph's Hotel. If you need a website link, let me know.

Thanks for both replies. If I sign up for the tour, I'd be stuck with a few nights on these boats. It's a good tour company (AWT) and the tour has the special perk of having Egyptologist Barry Kemp accompanying it. I will post on Cruise Critic too, to see if anyone has any information over there.

Pam-Casual Cairo is an actual guide in Cairo and if she recommends a hotel I would definitely look into it. I took her advice for the Hotel Longchamps in Cairo but our tour agency booked our hotel( due to the our cruise) in a 5 star in Luxor that was horrible on Christmas, no less .Wish I had taken all of her advice for hotels in Egypt as she is an American who really knows Egypt and has helped many many Fodorites through the years with our questions, concerns, etc.

Thanks, DutyFree. I know Casual Cairo is THE authority! But if I'm on a tour, I can't stay at a separate hotel. The other problem is hotel choices in the area aren't abundant. The floating boats aren't in Luxor -- they are in Sohag and Assyut. (not exactly tourist capitals of the worlds ;-) The reason for this is close access to Akhmim, Meir tombs and then Amarna.

Must use the term "tour leader", never a "guide". Only Egyptians can be a "guide". ;)
