Anyone been to Kaingu? (No, NOT Kaingo)

Has anyone stayed at Kaingu Lodge in Kafue NP?
What are peoples thoughts on this rustic camp.
What is the predator(ie.Leopards) viewing like from those that have been there?
Any help gladly appreciated.

Cheers
Marc

Anybody??

cooncat3 Aug 23rd, 2006 05:14 AM

Marc - Unfortunately not many us have been to Kafue. It was on my radar but I left it off because of logistics. Mitch used to post on this forum; if you check his web site he has a lot of info on many African camps/parks. He has been to Kafue. Perhaps you could even e-mail him directly. Here is the web address: Good luck!

Thanks Cooncat, should have thought of this before.
I do remember his postings on Lafupa/Karue NP.
Will email him.
Cheers

Mitch should be in Kafue NP right now, so you probably will not get an answer till next week.

Thanks lb
At least his advice will be nice AND up to date.
BTW
I meant of course Kafue, not Karue, slip of the old keyboard I'm afraid !

Hi Marc

I haven't been there but it is in my itinerary for a 12-night overland trip to Kafue that I have planned for October 2007. My plan is to cover Nanzhila Plains in southern Kafue and Busanga Plains in northern Kafue. My itinerary will look something like this:
- Lusaka to Mukambi by road
- 2 nights Mukambi Lodge(central Kafue)
- 3 nights The Plains Camp in Busanga Plains run by Mukambi (northern Kafue)
- 2 nights KaingU Lodge(central Kafue)
- 3 nights Nanzhila Plains Camp(southern Kafue)
- 1 night KaingU Lodge(central Kafue)
- KaingU to Lusaka by road

The whole trip will be dedicated to Kafue as it is such a large park and their will be no flights involved. The scattering of the central Kafue lodges will help to break up the journey.

Regards

Gaurang

Gaurang,

Looks like a great itinerary!

I think I'll join you. ;)

Hi Rocco

I think it will be a great experience - the more, the merrier (well...up to 6 people). I've done lots of overland trips in East Africa, but I think this will beat the lot of them. Because apart from the return trip to Lusaka (4 hours each way) - the rest of the long transfers are inside the park with good gameviewing included during the transfer. Mukambi to Busanga Plains is a 5 hour transfer inside the park!!!

Gaurang,

I will soon have to put you on retainer as you have this more thought out than I do so far! :)

Nice to know that the majority of the transfers are within the park. Chances are that I will just do the entire itinerary with you and I will add a Lower Zambezi educational visit prior to Kafue of:

Kasaka River Lodge (1) (The managers, Hugo and Esther are great and Alexsandra and I would love to see them again as well as see all the upgrades to the camp over the last few months)
Kulefu (2)
Sausage Tree Camp (2)
Old Mondoro (2)
Chiawa (2)

Then it will be the early flight back to Lusaka and then we will be off to Kafue! :)
