Any views on Motswari?

I'm starting to plan for 2010. Has anyone stayed at Motswari? Any feedback?

Doesn't appear to be a popular choice amongst Fodorites. I haven't been, sorry.

Motswari is a great reserve. I have have had the privalage to film there many times and it is great. It is not so overcrowded as the lodges in the Sabi Sands, you really do feel alone in Africa which is great.
Make sure you do the walk besides the river.
Go for it.

Happy Safaris

Lynn

I had a friend at Mowsware last may and his review was excellent!

Food, accoom., ambiance, drives and guides were awesome.

A water experience overall but with grate drives as well.

At the rates right now it's certainly a GO!

Motswari is in the Timbavati Private Game Reserve in South Africa. The game viewing is usually very good, and Motswari offers a good value for money safari experience!

Not exactly clear to me if we all are talking about the same thing. LOL seems to think it is a reserve. SV, I'm not sure. Is it the safari camp in South Africa near Kruger??
If so, here is a map of the Timbavati showing location of Motswari-
http://tomgraham.smugmug.com/MAPS/Ma...92_xwXAa-XL-LB
Note it is at the very top of the Timbavati.

Last Sep I was in fact at Motswari during a game drive out of Kings Camp (also in Timbavati). We drove up to see 4 lions asleep within a stones throw of the camp. Did not go into the camp, it looked nice. HOWEVER, again note Motswari's location. Their location at the top edge is obviously not a central location for game in the Timbavati. Thus they will be spending on the average more time driving to/from game deeper within the Timbavati.

Hi SV - yes, I suspected that you were referring to andBeyond's lodge in Zimbabwe called "Matetsi"!

Motswari is in the Timbavati
Motswiri is in the Madikwe.

Motswari is a lovely little camp: It is what the camps in the Sabi Sand were over twenty years ago. As for one of the posters having reservations about location, the only disadvantage its location yields is the time it takes to get there from Hoedspruit, aside from that, the game is good and typical of the Timbavati region. you go out on game drive so can head in whichever direction you please.

Food is OK, it is not top drawere fare, but certainly for the rate, a great plate of grub.

Not to get overly argumentative about Motswari location but if you are in Motswari you can only head south into the Timbavati. If you are in Kings Camp or Simbavati or Umlani you can head south or north. I remember driving back from Motswari after viewing the lions and it seemed like a long drive back to Kings Camp. Lookng at that map the distance would be 10-15km so at 30kph that would take 20-30 min, which sounds about right.

regards - tom
ps - FWIW there is a large amount of private property in the Timbavati. Must be nice!!!!!

Tom.... yawn....
The game there is quite outstanding and quite acceptable, case in point you needed to head there to see lion...
I do believe that once you are on the back of the vehicle who cares if you are headed north, south or whatever, enjoy the roide and the game.

BTW, I was there for 498 hours and had some really fantastic sightings, including leopard cub at 09h30. Lions, Kudu, Giraffe, wildebeest, elephant and so on....

....Actually why do I even give a damn to argue....????
