Any Feedback on Buffalo Hills Game Reserve?

We had a friend recommend it but have no means to compare it to others. This will be our first trip to South Africa. We want to explore around Capetown and not try to pack too much moving around into 11 days in country (after travel).

Any advice/feedback would be appreciated!

Laura Lee,

Buffalo Hills is a "so so" game reserve. It bothers me when I travel on a game reserve where I find that the ranger whistles and the rhino or the Cape Buffalo comes over to the Land Rover to be patted on the head. There just is something un-safarilike to my way of thinking as far as this is concerned. I mustalso add that the amount of game on the park makes it fall into the medium class when it comes to animal viewing. The accommodation at Buffalo Hills is pretty good. Please note that I am not suggesting that you go Buffalo Hills to see the game. What I do however suggest is that you try out the big secret at this farm in the form of the Nyati Mampoer (moonshine) Distillery. Once you have tasted mampoer you wont look at whiskey again, be it single of multi malt. Wonderful liquid and 100% legal to buy. Go to http://www.buffalohills.co.za/ an click on the Nyati link. Dont miss this event and make a purchase as you wont be sorry.

With the above said if you have the time you could do a day drive at Buffalo Hills and obtain some mampoer along the way however my favourite gamfarm in the area still is Botlierkop near Mossel Bay (http://www.botlierskop.co.za/). If you can make choices I suggest you look at the latter game farm as a better alternative be it animals or accommodation. They unfortunately dont have a mampoer distillery on Botlierskop.

Just my twopence worth and heres hoping that you enjoy your stay in our great land.

Very proudly part of the wonderful nation of South Africa
