Any advice for travelling to Ghana, Ivory Coast and the Gambia?

My female friend is planning a trip with her adult daughter to Ghana, Ivory Coast and the Gambia, beginning in February. She has a few contacts (friends of friends and acquaintances) in these countries, and she will also be tapping into the generosity of Women Welcome Women WorldWide womenwelcomewomen.org.uk

My friend is a multi-instrumentalist musician and music educator, specializing in ethnic music and storytelling. She'll be doing research for upcoming workshops and projects, while sharing her talent for improvisational music circles with the local people. Also while there, they plan to visit Hospice programs and learn about the cultural aspects of death and dying (daughter works with Hospice in the US). This is a research, sharing, and hopefully some relaxation trip. She will not be paid for any services (except maybe a place to stay for the night).

Does anyone have any advice I can pass on to her to help make her trip a more pleasant experience?
