ANOTHER Tipping Question - Gorilla Treck Tipping
 

Who gets tipped on Gorilla Treck? What is the suggested amount? I have searched the site and can't seem to find anything on this - can anyone tell me please.

Hi there. I will be going with Volcanoes in August and these are the suggestions i got from their site. Head Gorilla tracker $10 per person and he apparently shares it out and $3 per person for the porters. Hope this helps.

This is a good question. I was there many years ago and was gone before I realised I had not tipped anyone I think I was too "high" on the whole expeerience!! We will be back there in Feb so I am interested also in what those with experience or guidence from their op have to say. Our op has not mentioned anything as of yet.

We were just in Rwanda and we were informed that the going rate is $10/person to the guide who shares it out among the trackers and $5 to the porter. We watched scores of guys swinging pick axes on the highway which they are now rebuilding and they earn about $1/day were told. The money for the trackers is usually spread around in the local economy and is an important source of income. Of course, the local villages get 10% of the park fees for their development for schools or whatever they collectively choose. Normally, I wouldn't need a porter to carry my day pack, but I felt it was a contribution to the local economy and so we did it. The porters do a lot of work and make sure you get a good experience seeing the gorillas, etc.
