An Island, any island
I just posted [somewhat] the same post in the Latin America forum ..
My friend and I are in our mid20s, and we're looking to spin the globe and pick an island to visit next August. We're interested in something somewhat "unWesternized" and inexpensive [i.e. Donald Trump and his $$ hasn't jacked up the prices]. We both speak French, so language isn't a problem. We just need to pick someplace slightly isolated and fun.
Thanks, Genesea

Not too cheap but beautiful, un westernized and lots to do. Private island.
Northern Mozambique is an unexplored gem - Africa in the raw. Pre-tourists and pre development.
For a cheap option try Ibo Island - Bela Vista Lodge. Also in the Quirimbas Archipelago - though not on a private island - on an inhabited "local" island - populated with fisher folk and no cars -

I've always wanted to visit Madagascar and you'll be able to use your French!
