Am back from 8 weeks in Southern Africa!

Had a wonderful time and can't wait to tell you about it and hear about those trips that were also taken by others in the last couple of months...

Be patient with me though... we have a mountain of chores to sort through!

Just got back this morning and wanted to drop in briefly and say Hello!

Welcome home!! There's tons of pictures from all our trips, and good stories too. Take your time, we're not going anywhere fast

Kavey,
For a minute there, I thought you decided to stay in Africa.

Welcome Home!

We'll patiently wait for the trip report and pics (I know there's probably lots to do.)

And I can't wait to see how that new D70 worked for you and see the pics from it!

Kavey: I frequently wondered about you and Pete and how things were going. Thoroughly enjoyed seeing the pics of you early on in the trip. Welcome back. Your insight, comments and humor were missed!

Welcome back Kavey. The very worst part of a trip is getting home and having to catch up. So I will patiently wait to hear your stories and see your pictures!

Kavey,
Welcome back. Congratulations on renewing your wedding vows - this must have been the highlight in what I hope was an amazing trip.

And I'm sorry but I'm not a patient person so hurry hurry hurry with the trip report and photos!

Kavey, you are brave to log in! Get the chores done and feel free to join us even if the trip report isn't done yet! We know you will get around to it.

Well, probably the chore I hated the most was making sure all the bills I set up to be paid while we were gone got paid...you guys have a LOT more of that to wade through than we did. Then you have to get pictures developed.

You're too right - we have a lot of chores piled up including a lot of house purchases that we really need but put off until after we got back because it didn't make sense to buy them just before leaving and then not be able to test them and take them back if there were problems - new sofas, new mattress etc.

Majority of photos were taken on the digital so I have them already but need to process them - that's a lot of effort. I do have a few films from when I took the old film camera out with me instead...

Kavey-
Speaking of pics...I've got a good starting point for you since I'm waiting patiently to see your pics... How'd that new D70 perform?

Curious to know as I've heard both good and bad things about it.

Well, I think the answer is well.

The battery life is PHENOMENAL - we changed it 4 times in total (or maybe 3) during the entire 8 week trip - and I took well over 3000 images at high resolution jpeg. I also often used the camera to check my shot afterwards and zoom in to ensure it was in focus/ check I didn't need to reshoot.

Very easy to use and very easy to switch on bracketing, change ISO etc. I didn't use anything other than Auto modes as I don't tend to on holiday.

I haven't had a really GOOD look at the results but they seem OK.

I was very happy with the wide angle zoom that we bought but much less happy with the telephoto (an older model that struggled to focus on numerous occasions).

Let me tell you more once I examine the images more closely though...

Kavey: As the song from "The Sound of Music" goes, 'Let's start at the very beginning. A very good place to start.'
Just my 2 cents ... anxiously awaiting your report!!!
