I did not do a very good job of organizing these photos. The pictures of the humpbacks right next to the boat are on the second page.

Good pictures, Chewyhead! Memories, oh yes, memories - Alaska really is a state with a lot of million dollar views, and abundant wildlife - wow.
I didn't see the real small ships (or probably saw some, but thought they were private ships) but I did see a very small Cruise West (I believe) ship like Ibodem mentioned, it looked like it would hold 100 people, and it looked like an awesome ship to be on. We said for sure that we were going back, so I will bookmark the American Safari Cruise website, thanks, 20 people sounds wonderful!
Monica H, I remember that you were going in August - you are going to love it! I will see what I can do about putting together some of the best photos for you - Chewyhead, would you mind if I posted the link here for Monica along with a couple of highlights for her? That way it keeps Alaska all in one post on the Africa board, good idea?

Cheweyhead,
Nice photos, looks like it was a fun trip. As expensive as Africa. Hope you enjoyed those choice spirits.
I was on a short trip from Kodiak along the Katmai Coast for bears. At times I could have yoo-hooed to Lynda if we had traveled at the same time. My report will appear shortly. How about yours, Lynda?

LyndaS,
A little birdie told me you visited Hallo Bay for the bears ... we will be there soon for a week's stay and I'd love to hear about your visit there, if you have time. I have some detailed Q's about the guides etc ... private email is great if you have time.
Thanks!
Bill

Hi Bill-
Sorry I didn't see this until just now, I just dug up this post as I FINALLY finished posting my pictures of Alaska, as well as a very short report of each day on pbase. I'm sure you have come and gone by now!!!
Unfortuantely, the weather did not cooperate with us, and they scrubbed our flight - it was only a day flight to view the bears though, not for a stay at their camp. We had to add that to our 'go back and do' list.
Have you been yet? I'd love to hear how it was!
And, Lynn, Monica, Chewyhead, and anyone else who is interested, here is the link to my Alaska album (including a mimi-trip report) in pbase - there are 14 galleries in the album each with about 10-20 pictures, sorted by where we were.

Lynda, You'll have to go back for the bears and the other wonders of Alaska. I'm thinking mid to late July of 2010.
You had good weather in Glacier--picture perfect weather and your pictures in Glacier Bay were!
Alaska is my second "can't get enough of" destination. My third is a local Italian restaurant for Eggplant Parmesan.
The Ketichican Eagles are quite majestic. Lucky critters too that they can recover from their injuries there.
Emerald Lake is aptly named. You needed some nice sun on it to appreciate the emeraldness.
So despite bad weather messing with your bear outing, it looked pretty nice for the rest of the trip.
