AGH! Safari Company changed Nairobi hotel without consulting me!

We leave in only 17 days for Kenya and Tanzania. YAY!

However, today I received an email from my safari company informing me that "You will see a change in your itinerary for the overnight of July 10 in Nairobi. Rather than the Fairview....had to change your overnight stay to the Intercontinental...This change was made quite a while ago, and it was an oversight on my part that I did not notify you of it...This change from the Fairview to the Intercontinental is, of course, at no additional expense to your party."

Initially I was horrified that I hadn't been advised of this change "quite a while ago" so that I could have some input, and I'm also sad about not being able to stay at the Fairview which was my first choice for accommodation in Nairobi.

I'd appreciate your feedback on this. Is the Intercontinental truly an upgrade from the Fairview? Are there any other hotels I should consider over the Intercontinental? Thoughts?

This sort of thing is not unusual.
On my first trip, I learned of a hotel change when I was enroute to it in Nairobi.

Just be sure your lodge/camp accommodations have not been changed.

I'll leave the comparison of Fairview and Intercontinental to others who have been there.

I dont think you should worry about the Intercontinental.......

On my two trips thru Nairobi, i think i stayed at Hotel Regency. Was very nice....was a largish hotel, but, good enough for an overnight.

Its not a big deal. I stayed at the Intercontinental when KLM involuntarily bumped me from the flight from NBO to AMS, and the hotel was satisfactory -- very good location and I was able to wander around the city center (minor hassle, but nothing dangerous). If its only an overnight, the IC is OK -- if you have the day and are looking to spend it poolside, the Serena may be better, albeit more expensive.

First of all, your safari company was supposed to let you know about the change of the hotel so that you can give them a go ahead. However, Hotel Intercontinental is a super five star hotel. Fairview is 4 star although these two hotels has different experiences, fairview is like a country hotel!....I know you will have a good time at the Intercontinental hotel, it has great facilities.

Nice trip

No doubt upsetting not being advised earlier when this change occured, but for the 1-nt, the Intercontinental is more fine. Though a large western hotel (with an African flare) the final rooms have all recently been refurbished. You have full-services of a business center, shops, spa, pool and even a casino; a great Italian and Indian restaurant, if you wish. If arriving late and departing early the next morning, a clean bed and fluffy pillow will be more than fine at the IC, as the Fairview.

If you wish something else, though probably a few more dollars, inquire about the Norfolk or Serena; believe the Stanley would be the same price. Though space at this time space is likely limited everywhere.

Don't let this (little burb) weigh on your mind when you have a great safari awaiting you.

dear Calo

As long as your safari Lodges choices (& that's what matters) have not been altered, do not spoil your mood.

If u can still check an alternative, & a hotel with garden atmosphere is what u like - i suggest Safari Park Hotel. it is out of town though.
In town center a more 'central' location would be Stanley & Hilton both not more expensive than IC (i believe Norfolk & Serena may be a bit more expensive.)
In contrary to Stanley's viscinity, i wouldn't recommend to walk alone at night from IC (though personally i did it too) there r some empty street sections...

Quite upsetting I imagine.
Seen Intercontinental on the way to the airport and it looks like a great choice. I am glad you were not given the option of a lower *.
However, I would have thought that Norfolk, Holiday Inn would have been better options in terms of the gardens, lawns huh! Better find out about any other changes!
Hey, pick of interest, do u now have a final print of safari package confirmation or r u in 4 further surprises!!! Better check again
