"After Echo" The Queen Elephant of Amboseli

Sunday, October 16th, on PBS's Nature, at 8pm... an update since Echo's passing in May 2009. It's marked "new" though I'm sure there will be some old footage.

Mark your calendar to watch or set the VCR/DVR.

Thanks Sandi. What a brilliant matriarch she was and I'll be raising a tipple to her memory. The legacy she has left will remain through all her offspring and her memory remains implanted in them.
I await the screening in the UK.

Seems they (TV, print media, other) take turns as to who gets what first.

"No.1 Ladies Detective Agency" on HBO made it to the UK first before Stateside.

The book/movie series of Stieg Larsson's "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" appeared in Europe before the States.

Beats me where OZ fits in, but eventually I'm sure.

Just watch your TV listings.

I cried for an hours.

Lots of stock footage with Cynthia, her photographer and the gals from the Elephant Conservation... about Echo's babies, especially Ely with the bad legs, who had also been speared by a Masai, now a big bull who had actually gone off with other bulls for quite a number of years, not to return till recently (after Echo had died)... tears!

The antics of many in the herd over the years, especially funny when they were babies... laughter and tears!

Ella and Edina, one of whom died (don't recall which one)... tears!

How the family split apart after Echos passing, but even during the past 3/years of drought, survive... more tears!

A note Cynthia pulled out of Echos carcas (still on the plains) that a visitor left inside... even more tears!

Echo was already 27/yrs old when Cynthia first met her. Echo was 65/yrs when she died in May 2009. And tears are rolling down my cheeks as I write. If you didn't get to watch or it hasn't come your way... look for it and enjoy (a good cry)!

I had to turn to another station. Too sad. This is why I love elephants. Amost as interesting as humans.

This show was amazing! It made me realize many things about elephants and later how horrific circuses are for elephants.
