African woman wins Nobel Prize

Even though it's not exactly travel oriented, it's so exciting-
they have announced that Wangari Maathai, a female environmentalist who started the tree hugging movement in Kenya has been chosen for the Nobel Prize.

I met her (as part of group traveling for an NGO women's organization I was working for at the UN years ago) and was overwhelmed and moved at the time. Like so many of her female peers in the world, she is a person of such great bravery and dignity, and released a powerful force in the world with a quiet action. Here's a one-woman standing ovation!
