Africa - special offers

There's been a few random threads recently advising of special offers at some camps. I thought it might be a good idea to start a thread to bring together everybody's information on special offers that are out there. So my first offering on the Africa addicts guide to beating the credit crunch is:

Governors camp, Mara, Kenya: 2009 high season travel at low season rates. For bookings made before 20 Dec 2008

Sanctuary - with camps in Botswana, Kenya and Tanzania are offering various specials. Some have to be booked before end-Dec'08, others by end-Mar '09; some offers are "stay 5/nts, pay for 4" (or similar).

Asilia (Tanzania) also has some specials that have to be booked before end-Dec '08; others, later into '09.

Boundary Hill (Tarangire) has some offers.

There are others... so don't hesitate inquiring of your TO who in most all instances will get these reductions. You don't have to go direct and then coordinate transport. In fact, some specials may only be available thru a TO.

As I mentioned in another current post, over half the camps I've been to in the last 4 years have deals. And all were before the current economic crunch. Last Sep 2008 I was at Kings Camp and Ngala Lodge where rates were pay for 6 stay 8. Next Sep 2009 at Kings camps same deal and then at Kirkmans Kamp with long stay discount for 5(?) or more nights. Look around many camps have deals if you want to stay 4, 5 or more nights and that is exactly what I like, longer stays.

regards - tom

These aren't deals. Just quick fixes. The real deals are yet to come.

I've seen some deals that would make your head spin. The ones offered to 'locals'. It has the look of desperation.

Yesterday a recived and email from ATR with some special offers for Tanzania ,Botswana And Namibia ,if you book a 2009 trip before 19 Dicember.

I found this one of Namibia really special???? and most important it covers well the most attractive areas of Namibia for me ,with 3 days in the Namib desert , 3 days in Damaraland and 4 days around Etosha.

14 night trip self-driving around Sossusvlei, Swakopmund, Damaraland, Etosha and Okonjima. Staying in high quality small lodges throughout. The whole period January to June is a good time to be in Namibia, the weather being pretty reliably hot and dry. A stunning saving on such a low cost trip.

Start : Windhoek International Airport

01 Sossusvlei : Kulala Desert Lodge
02 Sossusvlei : Kulala Desert Lodge
03 Sossusvlei : Kulala Desert Lodge
04 Swakopmund : The Stiltz
05 Swakopmund : The Stiltz
06 Twyfelfontein : Doro Nawas Camp
07 Twyfelfontein : Doro Nawas Camp
08 Twyfelfontein : Doro Nawas Camp
09 Etosha South : Anderssons Ongava Camp
10 Etosha South : Anderssons Ongava Camp
11 Etosha East : Onguma Bush Camp
12 Etosha East : Onguma Bush Camp
13 Okonjima : Okonjima Main Lodge
14 Okonjima : Okonjima Main Lodge

End : Windhoek International Airport
Usual price : $2689 per person sharing in group of 2
Offer price : $2133
Discount : $556

Offer valid for trips booked before : 19 December 2008
Offer valid for travel between : 01 January 2009 and 30 June 2009
Offer valid for trip origination : any

If someone is planning a visit to Namibia next year this may be interesting. (if activities are included in Kulala,Doro Nawas,Ongava And Okonjima ,150$ pppd sounds a good deal?)

Paco.
