Affordable Nature Lodge on Tropical Lake Malawi -- A Backpackers Secret! Traditional Village, Festivals, Adventurous Families Welcome

Mwaya, which overlooks a secluded bay and an endless, pristine beach, is a charming nature lodge located on the northern shores of freshwater tropical Lake Malawi in southern Africa. It has long been a well-kept secret with adventurous, independent travelers. Mwaya offers exceptional standards of comfort, service and cleanliness at Malawian prices. Accommodation is provided in traditionally thatched burnt mud brick chalets. All are spacious and comfortable with double beds, romantic bamboo framed mosquito nets, and private verandas overlooking the turquoise lake and tropical gardens. All chalets have been individually designed and have special character. Guests can choose a chalet in a secluded, wooded nook, right on the beach or tucked away near the bamboo grove not far from the unique shared Balinese-style ablution facilities.

After putting up with all the hassles in Cape McLear and Senga Bey I found Mwaya the most incredible place! At Mwaya, the people are so refreshing from those down south tying to hit you up for everything from beach fish frys to wood carvings. They haven't quite caught on to taking advantage of tourists here even though many have wandered through. Kudos to Kristin, who started Mwaya, for doing her level best to ensure Myaya doesn't succomb to tacky money makers -- even when times have been slow Please get in touch with K -- it's a magic place! Itt's the kind of eco-lodge people are looking for but can't bloody find because any eco-lodge isn't going to be in a major town is it?
