affordable air package-Tanzania/Kenya

Hi Fodorites:
We are planning a Tanzania/Kenya safari for Aug.'05. We could really save on light plane fares and entry fees if we begin our tour in Tanzania and end it in Kenya. So far, the only affordable air fares we have found are round trip/ Nairobi, whereas flights to Tanzania(Kili Intl.) are stratospheric.Your suggestions re. specific, affordable flights to Kili Intl. and ending Nairobi appreciated.
Sincerely,
Lois

Generally fares r/t Nairobi are less than those to Kilimanjaro. But fares are also seasonal, and August is a preferable time for travel so, no doubt, fares may be higher. You can contact KLM who flies from AMS to both NBO and JRO, also contact BA who flies LHR in/out of both airports. Below are some air consolidator links that might have special fares. If you don't see what you want, call themm direct.

It's not unusual for fares to run in the range of $1200 - $1600 r/t person.

Hope this helps.

Someone recently was looking for a Kigali fare so I checked Ethiopian Airlines and it was reasonable, I just had a look at their fares and they offer Kilimanjaro from DC for $ 1,283 return and Nairobi for $ 1,273 return. Might be worth giving them a call and see if you can fly into Kilimanjaro and then back from Nairobi. As Sandi says KLM fly from both. Never heard of BA flying to Kilimanjaro though

JamesA - Ooops, You caught me. BA flies NBO and DAR (Dar-es-Salaam) not JRO.

Dear Sandi,James, et.al: Thanks so much for your input. Yes, we did access both Kenya & Ethiopian Airways for more affordable fares. In the end, we chose scheduling preferences with KLM over perceived $savings. For example, 8hr. layovers in London, or late-night arrival in NBO with no connecting flight to JRO(where we're beginning our safari)until the am.We realized that any savings would quickly evaporate with costs in layovers in London or Nairobi(hotel, etc). Thanks again-
Lois
