Advice for Coffee drinker in Morocco

I know Morocco is known for mint tea but I am wondering how easy it is to find good coffee. We are staying in nice hotels and riads. Can I assume I can get a lovely cup of coffee at breakfast?

sorry if this is a dumb question. I am used to my 16 oz WAWA coffee in the morning and in the afternoon.

Even when I was in Europe I missed my 16 oz. coffees since they usually serve in cups the size of thimbles. hmmmmm

We had coffee everyday along with our mint tea. In our small riad they did not have any, but the other nights we were at Le meridien and they did. Plus any cafe will have coffee, cappucino etc. especially on the main square. Have fun.

We were in Morocco November with OAT and the coffee is very strong! We were told by our guide to always order "nus nus" (dont know spelling but long u sound) It is just their strong coffee with about half milk. It was very good and I was not one to put creamer in my coffee. Now I am home, I cant seem to stop tho! We had a great time in Morocco and hope you do the same. Lots of desert and we were on the road quite a bit. If you need any info, let me know. Carol

thank you Carol. I wonder if anyone in your group got sick from food or drink.

that is my number #1 concern right now.

When in Morocco my Mom and I ordered the nus nus and loved it! Every place we went to had coffee. We also traveled with OAT and had a great time!

Enjoy your trip!

You can get good coffee here in Morocco although it comes in "thimble sized" cups, as you put it.

Getting sick is unfortunately for most people, par for the course. I suppose you could take preventative measures such as only drink bottled water, and only eat at places where there are a lot of people dining as that is one way of assuring that your food is prepared fresh, because of the high turnover. Avoid kefta, it seems to make a lot of people sick, and if you do eat it, ask them to make sure that it or any other meat you order is "bien cuit". Lots of people will probably have advice as to how to avoid the "turista", but the bottom line is that the microbes naturally present in food are different from country to country and it is usually this that your stomach reacts to, not because the food is necessarily unhygienic.

I can so relate to the coffee issue, I am not a nice person without my morning coffee. :-) But thankfully they do serve coffee every morning with breakfast.

I went to Morocco in 2004 and to the best of my knowledge nobody in our group got sick. That's partly because we were so well-prepared by our guide. As you already know, drink only bottled water. Avoid ice since it's probably made with tap water and avoid any foods that could be washed in tap water, such as salads or uncooked veggies. And when you brush your teeth, use your bottled water to rinse your mouth and toothbrush.

I think you will enjoy Morocco, it's a beautiful county with great food, nice people, and a lot of interesting sights.

I stayed in several hotels in Morocco and the coffee was fine. It was served in regular sized cups and you could get refills.

Take precautions with food and water. Drink bottled water and be sure the bottle is sealed. Use bottled water when you brush your teeth. Don't eat ground meat (kefta-little meatballs in a sauce) and eat only cooked vegetables and fruit, (which is fresh and delicious) unless you can peel the fruit. If you see drops of water on your plates or utensils, wipe it off.

I ate lamb, beef and chicken and had no GI problem.

I brought Pepto Bismal, Immodium and Cipro (on the advice of the county health dept). I didn't get sick but a couple of people with me had a few bad days.

Morocco is beautiful and amazing, you'll have a wonderful vacation.

thank you all for your answers. I am happy to know that coffee is easy to come by.

I will take every precaution regarding food and drink and hope for the best.

Concerning our group and any digestion problems....Hubby and I both took cipro beginning the first day of the trip for 7 days in egypt and morocco. We had no stomach problems whatsoever. I know doctors are totally against this and even one doctor on our trip didn't like it when we told him we were taking cipro...but....i think everyone in our group of 12 was sick sometime or the other (includng the doctor who said he never got sick) during our 2 week trek with OAT except hubby and me! I don't think taking it once like that every year or two is too bad. I hate to think about spending months planning and dollars going and be sick for even one day! As we say "IMHO" these are my thoughts!!
