On the way to our safari in Botswana, we are scheduled to spend 2 nights at the River Club. Do we need 2 nights at Victoria Falls to see all we will want to see? I don't think we will need to recover from jet lag as we will have spent 1 night in JNB and possibly 1 or 2 in London.

1 night in Vic Falls is sufficient if you are just going to see the falls and do some shopping in the crafts village. You may want more time to do some white water rafting. We did 1 night at Vic Falls on our way to Botswana and another night on our way out. Aside from seeing the falls and shopping, we also had time for a sunset cruise on the Zambezi.

Suggestion: If you are going to the falls, try going first thing in the morning as soon as it opens. Otherwise, you will be bombarded by locals asking you to hire them for guides. There's no need for a guide at the falls.

1 night is sufficient to see the Falls. The River Club will provide you with a guide to the Falls and elsewhere, if you desire. They are extremely accomodating and friendly and a sunset cruise on the Zambezi is offered nightly. If there is something you would like to do, just ask. Even though a 1 night stay is sufficient to see the Falls, the 2nd night will not go unrewarded. You can enjoy elephants and hippos and the setting is a perfect way to start your safari.

We loved Vic Falls. We used it as our starting location, so we actually spent 3 nights there. It was a delight. We were treated like royalty. Without the cost
We did book an elephant ride. It was a great addition to our safari.
With one day, you will get to see the falls. With additional time, you can enjoy the shopping, elephant rides, sunset cruise - the hippos are great, a wonderful tea at the VF hotel, etc. You will not be disappointed.

For the guide question... you do not techincally need a guide, but our guide for the day cost $25. It was well worth it. He picked us up. Took us every where we wanted to go. Fended off the locals selling their goods. Our guide was a delight. Would highly recommend.
