A question regarding Oct. weather in Kruger NP
I am leaving for SA next week. I checked weatherbase for the lowest temp in Skukuza,
as that was the closest town I could find to Kruger NP, and it said the low would be around 60 degrees. I had heard that it could get really cold-in the 40's during the morning and afternoon safaris. What shoud I prepare for-60 degrees or 40 degrees for mornings and evenings in Kruger in mid Oct.? |
I was there in early Oct. It was chilly during the early part of the a.m game drive and the latter part of the p.m. game drive, what with the wind as the safari vehicle moved. I don't recall it getting into the 40's, more like the upper 50's at worst perhaps. But during the day it got to the upper 80's. So, I'd suggest a couple of layers---I used a hooded sweatshirt and light jacket which I'd remove or put on a necessary.

Skukuza is in Kruger NP, the big main camp, so you did indeed find Kruger weather. (Where did you think Skukuza is?) Summer/spring is coming to SA so the weather should be getting warmer. I was in Kruger and Kruger area for the first three weeks of Sep this year. It never got down to 40 F. Maybe 50's in early morning. Also had a few days as high as 95 F. If you're game driving in an open vehicle at 6am you will need a hat, and jacket on. But then again, maybe not, depends on the weather :-) .
FWIW, here is weather and forecast for Hoedspruit which is very close to Kruger - http://www.wunderground.com/global/stations/68291.html This weekend highs of 77, lows of 54 and good chance of rain. regards - tom |
I thought Skukuza was the name of a town near but not in Kruger. Thanks your replies. Now I have a better idea of what to pack.

Are you going into Kruger? Do you have any maps? Where are you staying in Kruger?
You must look at the Kruger NP web site, LOTS of good info there. http://www.sanparks.org/parks/kruger/ regards - tom |
