A few questions about cairo!

Ive just booked to stay at the new palace hotel (hostel) and the nile hilton for a few days each in june and was just wondering if anyone had stayed at either of these and what they where like. I know they're very different types of accomodation, but I thought id treat myself for the last couple of nites!
Also can anyone recommend a casino in cairo, iv only been to one once in south africa and i loved it, so would really like to go to another one. Also, is it safe?
I am also considering taking a day trip to alexandria on the train and wanted to know if there was anything we should make sure we see while were there.
Is it possible to get day trips into the desert? Really fancy going but as iv already booked my accomodation, i cant really stay overnight in any of the oases.
Lastly, it will be my 21st birthday while im over there and wondered if anyone could recommend a nice restaurant? and is there any decent bars/clubs for people my age?
Thanx alot!

The Cairo Marriott in Zamalek has a casino. There are slot machines, roulette and blackjack (no poker). The games are all played with American dollars.

We took the train for the day and had a guide. Her name is Mona and she is great. Her english is very good. You can reach her at [email protected]. She met us at the train station and had a taxi for us. She knew all the places to take us including a nice seafood restaurant.

I don't know about day trips into the desert, we didn't have time.

You can go to the Fayoum Oasis in the Western Desert for the day. Lots of history there including fossils. Be sure to get a guide from your Cairo hotel or find one through guidebooks. I haven't been there, but a Brit ex-pat friend who lives in Cairo just took her daughter there &Y

con't.

Please don't judge the caliber of my advice with the caliber of my computer, typing and proofreading skills!

Anyway, my friend took her daughter to Whale Valley in Fayoum for a day trip from Cairo & a good time was had by all despite the rain.

We stayed at the Nile Hilton while in Cairo and it was great. There is a casino right in the hotel as well as some clubs that you might enjoy. Do take a day trip to Alexandria as it is a beautiful city and the Mediterranean breeze will be a nice relief from the Cairo heat.
