Do a search on this board - use the box above, input "Egypt tour operators" (w/o the "", click search on the right. Threads containing such information will appear on the right. From here you can read about other tour operators that have been used with success. Many are in-country Egyptian outfitters.
As most itineraries to Egypt are quite similar i.e., 10-days, I'd use the A&K itinerary and properties as a guideline and see whether another operator can offer the same, similar or better... I'm sure they will, at a much improved (lower) price.

I have never been to Egypt, but I have taken 3 of their trips so far, and we are going to Botswana and South AFrica on an A&K trip in 3 weeks--they are terrific, every detail of your trip will be handled for you--pricey yes, but worth it!!!

When I'm picking up customers, I generally see AK coming out of the top end hotels (4 Seasons, Mena House). That is one of the reasons they are so expensive. If you don't need to be in that expensive of a hotel, you can do the same trip for less money.
