5 Days in Morocco - Fes/Chef/Merzouga
 

My husband and I are going to Morocco from 18-23 Feb. Our flight arrives in Rabat at 8pm on 18 Feb. We are thinking about the following itinerary but not sure if its possible in the time we have:

Day 1:
Arrive Rabat and stay 1 night

Day 2:
Rent a car (any suggestions?) drive to Chefchaouen early morning
Stay 1 night
Is this enough time?

Day 3:
Drive to Fez early morning and stay 1 night

Day 4:
Drive to Merzouga and take a camel ride into the desert
Spend 1 night in the desert
Any suggestions on great companies offering this?
Is it better to drive to Merzouga or use a company to get us there?

Day 5:
Ride back on camel to Merzouga and drive to Casablanca.
Stay 1 night in Casablanca

Day 6:
Leave Casablanca in time for flight at 8pm

If anyone could let me know if this is do-able or if I need more time in one place rather and skip something else out

Sorry, no way is that viable, that's about 32 hours of driving, you will spend most of your time looking out at Morocco through the car windscreen.

No way!you can either do Rabat/Fes and Chefchaouen part or From Casablanca airport directly to Marrakech/Merzouga/depart Casablanca you choose!!

We're not particularly slow travellers and we've done some of that driving but agree with the others - that's too much driving and too little stopping. You're almost arriving late and using some of the most incredible places as sleepovers before an early start. We had a couple of long drives between Fez and Merzouga with an overnight in Azrou. We switched to bus from Fez to Chefchaouen and that was a 4 hour ride plus a stop for a bathroom break (and that wasn't one that stopped otherwise, so driving won't be faster). Fez, just by itself is one of the most incredible places I've ever seen so, yeah... the time after a long drive and before leaving for an even longer one in the morning would be way too little.

I agree too much driving not enough time in Fez. Fez should be at least 3 days.

Fez takes more than a night just to turn back the century and settle in to such a place filled with history. At least three nights there is good but for you at least two full days. If you are flying there I would seriously look at staying a bit longer...things don't move fast there and most of your trip is travel time.

I think you would be the best judge of how much driving you can tolerate on this trip. What I can say though is that I would have spent more than one night in Chefchaouen had I known how beautiful it was! It is more laidback than the larger cities, which allows you to better soak in the atmosphere without getting too distracted by the crowds. Fez is also incredible and trumps Marrakech any day; its medina would take more than a day to explore, and the environs perhaps another half-day. Erg Chebbi is one of my favourite memories of Morocco--I luckily had more than just a sunset/sunrise to enjoy hiking the high dunes. With five days, however, leaving out Merzouga would give you a bit more time to experience your other stops. Whatever you do, I would recommend against a whole day of driving from Merzouga to Casablanca.

I think 1 night in Chefchaouen is plenty. Unless you want to hike, there's not a lot to do there and the dining scene is limited. Aside from hiking, its many a photo op IMHO.
