3 days in Istanbul
What is the best way to see the most of Istanbul in 3 days?
|
As I recall, most of the sights are in the old part of the city. So hope you have a guidebook, where you can see/learn what's to offer and if interest. As well a map of the area. Then concentrate your time here. Some places assess entry fees

I was there for the 1st time last October - loved it!!! I would stay in the Old City. I would recommend signing up for a group tour of some of the major sites. It is a very efficient way to get into some of the sights that can be crowded. Also, check on the days that you will be there and what might be open or closed. We used Daily Istanbul Tours for a day tour that was very good and informative and got us past the long lines. We stayed at the Neorion Hotel which was well located and excellent service. Restaurants we liked were Mosaik and Sultanahmet Fish House. Also the bath house is quite an experience if you are up for it, although I tried it in another part of Turkey since I ran out of time in Istanbul.

How many days is the "right" amount for a first visit to Istanbul?
|
I was there for 3 nights before a cruise and certainly wouldn't want to be there for less time. I would have enjoyed at least another day or two. I loved Istanbul - the sights, the history, the food, the people and all of the kitties!
|
' all the kitties ' - for sure this then is a country for which you have the Rabies inoc before visiting.
|
I too would recommend a guided tour to hit the highlights
in one day. Then you can see additional sights, and return to favorites on the other days. I like Context Travel for guided tours in several European cities but they emphasize history (in an engaging way). |
(Looks like we'll be there 5-1/2 days. Enough time to shop for ceramics and silk scarves :-) )
