Khakif, I remember and sometimes I’ve been thinking of you. I’m so glad that Cobbles wasn’t logged out from Fodor’s by a technical problem. I don’t think it would be too bold of me to assume that your husband would have liked you to be on a plane to East Africa as soon as possible.

Khakif: thank you for sharing your personal and touching story. I would say with your discovery of Cobbles identity he has acheived his last desire to leave you with one more incredible memory of the man and place you love so much. He has successfully linked these things together in your heart and the surprise he was working on has been delivered!
Cheers to the celebration of Cobbles, a man who was clearly loving and devoted to his wife. My prayers and well wishes are with you Khakif!

would definately jump on to "divewod"'s suggestions:
tanzania: nomad incl. the chimps in the eastern part of TZ and maybe a couple of beach days on zansibar. here i would trat her to the kempinski!
asilia lodges in TZ is also a very good option www.asilialodges.com. but it's not really mobile but semi-permanent camps with a very good value for money.
southern africa:
definately CC AFRICA and their botswana mobile safari: 10 days/9 nights from maun to vic falls.
4x4m walk in tents with flush loos in bath tents attached to the bedrooms.
extension in zim: would go to motswiri not far from vic falls.
vic falls at that time of year is much better from the zim side than from zam.
happy planning!

I too want to add my condolences to this thread. I'm in agreement with PB - your loving husband did succeed in giving you another special memory of you and he in Africa, of his love for you. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Dear Khakif,
Thank you for sharing this very personal part of your life. I'm crying, but I'm not sure if it's happy or sad. It sure is emotional.
Happy - because Cobbles was such a wonderful, thoughtful, romantic husband who loved you so very much and sad for your loss of this very same person.
I'm thinking of you,
Kristina

What a beautiful story Khakif. I too am sorry for the loss of your wonderful, loving husband. Sending you a big hug and hope you make it back to Africa.
On a side note, those safari stuffed animals are the cutest I have ever seen! Loved the quote from your granddaughter too. Does she live near you in Texas? And I have been meaning to ask you, what made you choose your screen name? I have a feeling there could be a good story behind that.

There was much internal conflict as to whether I wanted to go public with my story, but since we had all tried to help Cobbles I thought it was only fitting that everyone understand why he never replied to our earnest suggestions.
PredatorBiologist & Kavey: thank you for sharing your perception, I believe you went straight to the essence.
Sandi: I think future safaris will be equally satisfying, but not on the scale TCS has to offer.
Tuckeg: Yes, he knew I was a member of the forum and that I got much joy and information from all of you. He new my login was Khakif. I have read and re-read his posting many times. I feel that he was speaking directly to me when he said, “Khaki the Don Young safari looks like the sort of vintage, romantic environment I'm seeking.” That safari came at a particularly special time in our lives; he must have wanted to recreate the moment.
Why the $1200 per night private safari? I don’t know. It has not been a requirement on most of our safaris. Perhaps in his mind our last had to be extravagant; or maybe it was as simple as assessing who might best accommodate his medical needs, or who might take care of me if he should die whilst halfway around the world. DH was fighting serious health issues the last three years.
CarlaM: Later this week I will post the answer on “So what does your screen name mean?”
In closing, Houston has been good to me. The ladies in my community have taken me in, providing comfort and a sense of belonging. I am on the path to healing and moving forward. Tried to find my “tribe” in Houston by putting out a request for a HOU Get-Together….but only Andy Biggs responded. No safari on the immediate horizon… but this year, Africa is coming to me….several of my past safari guides are stopping in HOU during their US tour to spend some time together.
Thank you all for your commiseration. May each of you continue to pursue your safari dreams and be blessed with many memorable journeys. You provide an valuable resource to all those who come to Fodor's seeking answers.

Are you serious?
What made you fix on that figure?
Why $1200 a night? Why not $1000 or $1600?
You do know, I assume, that what you are thinking of spending on one night is twice or three times what some residents of the continent earn in a WHOLE YEAR?

Shame on you!
All you seemed to have read was the thread title and not the replies and latter note from Cobbles wife that he passed. That this trip was to be something special, as a surprise, for the two of them to enjoy.
What is it any of your business, (whether $120 or $1,200) how much or how little Cobbles wanted to spend for his wonderful and loving wife?
