11 Days in South Africa: Itinerary Suggestion?
Hope you guys can help me :)
I'm going on a overland Africa trip and my last stop will be in South Africa. Since I'm visiting more than one country, my time in each country is limited. I have 11 days in South Africa and wanted to ask you what itinerary you'd suggest? I haven't booked my flight back home yet. I am in Namibia before South Africa and arriving in Cape Town. What I'm not sure about: Should I fly back directly from Cape Town or should I fly back from Johannesburg? Is 11 days enough to see most of the sights in cape town, around it and in Johannesburg and around it? Thanks guys! |
11 days is more than enough. Will you have done a safari? If not, than definitely head to Krueger.
There is plenty to do in Cape Town - Robben Island, Cape Point, Boulder's Beach, Hout Bay, Table Mountain, the Botanical Garden, to Bo Kaap, the Gold Museum. The beaches on the Atlantic side - like Camps Bay - are said to be the prettiest, while the Indian Ocean side is warmer for swimming. Try Muizenberg, which is a nice beach lined with multi-colored cabanas. Within a few hours of Cape Town, you can go to the wine country around Stellenbosch, and to Hermanus on the coast, where you may be able to see whales. Not sure how easy it is to do either without a car or driver, but I'm sure you can get to both by buys. |
Fodors is an amazing site and the forum contributors are great. We live in Cape Town and one year some American friends came to visit and we spent a lot of time exploring our home town with them and decided to write a review - here's the link - I think I should post it on Fodors

You can easily spend 11 days and return from Capetown. Check out the Wilderness coast and on to Knysna, and then inland to Prince Albert and the Swartberg Pass. Will you be driving yourself?

August? December? Makes a big difference.
