Day trip from Zurich

Hello,

I would appreciate suggestions around day trip from Zurich. Currently, I have Bern in mind. Its a hour from Zurich by train. Any other suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks!

Let me expand the scope of this thread. We have 4 full days to spend in Munich and Zurich. That gives us a few options. We could spend 2 full days in Munich and 2 in Zurich. Or we could spend 2 days in Munich, 1 day for a day/side trip from Munich and 1 day in Zurich. Or we could spend 2 days in Munich, 1 day in Zurich and 1 day for a side trip from Zurich.

Sorry, I hit entered before completing post. Here is the complete post:

Let me expand the scope of this thread. We have 4 full days to spend in Munich and Zurich. That gives us a few options. We could spend 2 full days in Munich and 2 in Zurich within those cities. Or we could spend 2 days in Munich, 1 day for a day/side trip from Munich and 1 day in Zurich. Or we could spend 2 days in Munich, 1 day in Zurich and 1 day for a side trip from Zurich.

The day/side trip options from Munich include either Rothenburg or Neurumburg or Salzburg? Day trip options from Zurich include Bern or Lucerne.

2 days are barely enough for either of those two cities. I don't see time for day trips in this schedule.

4 full days? How do you get from Munich to Zürich? Takes a half day at least, if you want to see something along the way then it's a full day.

Like quokka said ... and Rothenburg? Way too far. Never heard of Neurumburg.

If you *really* have two full days in Zürich then I stand by my recommendation of Lucerne. If it's really just a half day or so then do a cruise on the lake to Rapperswil and take the train back.

The boat ride to Rapperswil would be my favourite option, too. Experience a bit of the landscape and a small town instead of racing through another city.

The four days do not include the travel time from Munich to Zurich, thats why I said I had 4 full days. If we include the travel day, then I have 5 days. And sorry, I meant Nuremberg.

I am inclining towards Lucerne. So

Day 1: Arrive in Munich
Day 2: Munich
Day 3: Munich
Day 4: Munich to Zurich
Day 5: Zurich
Day 6: Zurich to Lucerne and back.
Day 7: Leave Zurich

Is this still a tight schedule or doable?

Hello qzseattle

How about:
Day 4: Munich to Luzern
Day 5: Luzern
Day 6: Luzern to Zurich

This way you could enjoy the boat to Rapperswil one day, and the next perhaps a trip to Engelberg to enjoy Mt. Titlis.

Happy travels!

The questions is, why Zürich at all? While I do think Zürich is worth to see I still think Lucerne is nicer as it also offers the mountain experiences (Pilatus e.g.)

In case you fly out of Zürich you could most likely take a train from Lucerne to the airport as well as from Zürich (or drive).

But yes, your schedule is doable.

Nuremberg (Nürnberg on the road signs) is an easy day trip from Munich but what is the point? There's way too much to see and do in and around Munich to drive one or two hours (or take the train).
