Restaurants Close to Sprint Center

We are making our annual trip to Kansas City for the Big 12 Basketball Tournament. This year we are staying at a Hilton close to the Sprint Center. Are there any new restaurants, or old favorites, close by? We want a sit down restaurant that is not in the Power and Light District, which is usually too crowded during the tournament. We usually walk to JP's Wine Bar for at least one dinner. Attnymom, if you're still checking on this forum I know you will know if anything new has opened within walking distance. But would appreciate anyone else offering an opinion also. Last year several of you mentioned Crossroads area. Good suggestions but really just a littte too far to walk to with only an hour or 1 1/2 between sessions. Might be able to go there on Friday for an early dinner since tournament doesn't start until 6 that day. JP's is sometimes a problem because they aren't open for dinner until 5 and that runs us short on time. Thanks.

You might like the Majestic Restaurant which opened in the lovely old building which was the Majestic Steakhouse.

Farmhouse is a little farther away in the River Market. It has been around a few years now, but may be new to you.

if the River Market isn't too far for you to walk, I would recommend Garozzo's, but that may be just as far or farther as going to the Crossroads area. Anthony's is an Italian restaurant at 7th and Grand. I have only had take-out from Anthony's, but they have a lot of fans.

Ingredient at 12th and Main is pretty decent for breakfast, fresh salads and sandwiches -- you could download their menu and call ahead. I can't recall if they were open last year during the tournament.

Garozzo's is good but you definitely do not want to walk there (especially at night). Cafe Trio is a short cab ride from that area and very good

Hey, great suggestions everyone. I think Majestic will be perfect for an early dinner one night. A little pricey, but not too bad. Haven't checked their serving times yet. Hope they are open for dinner by 5. Anthonys also looks good. I think I have been into Ingredient a few times but never eaten there. It is the large place on a corner that looks like a grocery, isn't it? That should be perfect for lunch. Thanks all. Now if you can just get us some good weather and if my Horns can win for a change in KC, we will be happy.

I would have to check to be sure, but I think JP Wine Bar closed recently.

If you head to the Freight House district (too far to walk, but a quick cab ride), you might check out Grunhauer...it's fairly new, Austrian/German food so kind of unusual. They have a great bar, the Wunderbar, with a celebrity bartender/mixologist that has gotten a lot of attention.

Supposed to be wonderful.

down 12th street in the bottoms, the Genessee Royale Bistro and the R Bar are new additions since last year.
Look in same forum posted above. I hit send too quickly, as usual.

Keith, I hope that is the final also. A win by Kansas solidifies their no. 1 seed in tournament and a win by UT will get us back up to a no. 2 seed (assuming we don't fall apart against Baylor tomorrow in the final regular season game. Hope KState doesn't play spoiler for either of us.
Thanks for the heads up about JP, Musicfan. Sorry to hear that they closed.

Larry -- there is a grocery store at 13th and Main --Cosentino's -- one could eat in there, too. They have a sushi bar, pizza, hot food -- such as fried chicken and mac and cheese, very large salad bar, sandwich's made to order, and a dine in area overlooking the store. The salad bar has hot soups and some hot entrees, also, like lasagna. Ingredient is one block up. There is a food court in City Center Square with a Jason's Deli, Subway, and a few other places, including Curry in a Hurry that smells like it has the real stuff ;-) (including a selection with goat meat) There is a small place in City Center Square called Time Out that has decent take away food -- good fresh sandwiches.

Thanks, Diane. I think Cosentinos must be the place I have been in before. Between that and Ingredient we should be set for quick lunches or snacks between sessions. thanks.
